Car Shipping To and From Michigan
We ship cars in and out of Michigan: Detroit and its suburbs, Troy and Oakland County, Flint, Grand Rapids and Lansing. A lot of that traffic runs on I-75, the same interstate that connects Michigan to Florida.
- Detroit, Troy and Flint pickups and deliveries
- Florida and Texas lanes into Michigan
- One FCT contact from quote to drop-off
Michigan roads and metro areas
Metro Detroit is where most Michigan loads start or end. I-75 runs north from the Ohio line through downtown Detroit, then up through Troy, Pontiac and Auburn Hills to Flint, Saginaw and Bay City. I-94 heads west from Detroit past Dearborn and the airport to Ann Arbor, Jackson and Kalamazoo. I-96 links Detroit with Lansing and Grand Rapids, and I-696 crosses Oakland and Macomb counties through Southfield, Royal Oak and Warren.
On the west side of the state, Grand Rapids sits on I-96 and US-131, and I-196 follows the lakeshore down toward Holland. I-69 comes up from Indiana through Lansing to Flint and on to Port Huron. North of Bay City, I-75 keeps going all the way to the Mackinac Bridge and the Upper Peninsula, which we serve too with more planning time.
Detroit, Troy and Flint
Detroit. We pick up and deliver across the city and Wayne County, including Dearborn, Livonia, Westland and the Downriver communities. Detroit is the home of the American auto industry, and cars move in and out of the metro area constantly, which helps when we are matching a carrier to your dates.
Troy and Oakland County. Troy sits along I-75 north of Detroit, next to Birmingham, Royal Oak, Rochester Hills, Sterling Heights and Bloomfield Hills. Oakland County is busy with dealers moving units between stores and with families shipping a second car for a move or a winter in the South.
Flint and Genesee County. Flint is where I-75 and I-69 meet, so trucks headed to or from Detroit, Lansing and Saginaw all pass through. We move cars to and from Flint, Grand Blanc, Fenton and Burton.
Florida to Michigan, and back
I-75 is a straight line between Michigan and Florida. It starts in South Florida, runs up the Gulf side through Naples, Fort Myers, Sarasota and Tampa, crosses Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio, and comes into Michigan through Detroit, Troy and Flint. That makes Florida to Michigan a natural lane for a car carrier, with one interstate doing most of the work.
Most of it is snowbird traffic. Michiganders who winter in Florida ship a car south in the fall and back north in the spring and fly instead of making the drive. We handle both legs, and the same contact handles each. We also ship cars bought in Florida up to Michigan, and cars from Orlando, Jacksonville and the Miami area that are not on I-75 itself. Book as early as you can when everyone is heading the same way. See our Florida vehicle shipping page and our notes on seasonal shipping.
Texas to Michigan
Plenty of people buy trucks and cars in Texas and ship them home to Michigan, and plenty of others relocate between the two states for work. We move vehicles from Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio and Austin to Detroit, Troy, Flint, Grand Rapids and the rest of Michigan, and from Michigan to Texas.
There is no single interstate between Texas and Michigan, so the carrier's route depends on where in Texas the car starts and where else the truck is loading. What stays the same is the process: we vet the carrier, confirm the driver and truck before pickup, and confirm the pickup and expected delivery windows before it rolls. If you are buying in Texas, read shipping a car you bought out of state and line up the release with the seller first. More on the other end at Texas vehicle shipping.
For Michigan dealers
Michigan dealers move a lot of inventory across state lines: trades with stores in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, auction buys from around the country, off-lease returns and fleet units. We handle dealer trades, auction pickups, new vehicle and customer deliveries, store-to-store transfers inside a dealer group, and several units on one order.
When your regular hauler falls through on a Detroit or Troy load, call us as the backup. Every carrier is vetted, the driver and truck are confirmed before pickup, and you deal with the same contact each time. Loads booked on the Guaranteed Delivery Rate come with the delivery window in writing; terms are on the dealer guarantee page. Send units through the dealer desk or call (980) 552-1101.
For individuals
Besides snowbirds and Texas buyers, we ship cars for families relocating in or out of Michigan, for students at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and Michigan State in East Lansing, and for collectors moving a classic. Everyday cars go on open trailers. Classic, exotic and high-value cars can ride in an enclosed trailer.
From our base near Charlotte, a carrier usually heads north on I-77 through Virginia and West Virginia into Ohio, then picks up I-75 to Detroit. We do not have a Michigan location; every order is handled by phone, email and the client portal.
How shipping a car with FCT works
- Send the move. Pickup and drop-off cities, the vehicle, whether it runs, and the date it is ready. Use the form above or call Monday to Saturday, 9 AM to 6 PM Eastern.
- A real person quotes it. We price the actual lane, whether that is Troy to Tampa or Houston to Flint.
- Carrier vetted, truck confirmed. Every shipment is fully insured, and we confirm the driver and truck before pickup.
- Windows set before dispatch. You get the pickup window and the expected delivery window before the truck rolls. If anything changes on the road, FCT tells you first.
- Track it and keep the paperwork. At fctorders.com you sign in with your email and a 6-digit code, see live driver location while the driver is active, and download the delivery BOL.
