Door-to-door transport

Door-to-Door Car Shipping, Explained Honestly

No terminals. The carrier picks your car up near your address and delivers it near the one you choose. The truck gets as close as it safely and legally can, and sometimes that means a nearby open lot.

  • No terminal drop-off or pickup
  • Meeting spot agreed before the truck rolls
  • Vetted, fully insured carriers

What door-to-door means

Door-to-door transport means the carrier picks the car up at your address and delivers it to the address you choose, instead of you dropping it at a terminal and collecting it from another one. Every move we book works this way.

Here is the honest part. A car hauler is a big truck, often carrying several cars. The driver gets as close to your address as the truck can safely and legally get. On many streets that is right out front. On a narrow road, a cul-de-sac, a street with low trees or weight limits, or a neighborhood that does not allow large trucks, the driver will meet you at a nearby open lot instead, like a store or church parking lot. We sort out the meeting spot with you before pickup and before delivery, so nobody is surprised on the day.

Who uses door-to-door shipping

  • People moving. The car leaves from the old home and arrives near the new one. See reasons to ship your car during a move.
  • Out-of-state buyers. A car bought from a dealer or private seller far away, picked up there and brought to you. Read buying a car out of state.
  • Snowbirds and students. A car that needs to be at the winter home or on campus without the long drive.
  • Dealers delivering to buyers. A sold car brought to the customer. See new vehicle deliveries.

How door-to-door shipping works with FCT

  1. Tell us the move. Both addresses, the year, make and model, whether it runs, and when it is ready. Mention anything about the street that could stop a big truck. Use the quote form or call (980) 552-1101.
  2. A real person quotes it. No instant quote and no price table.
  3. We vet the carrier. Every carrier is checked before it touches the car, every shipment is fully insured, and the driver and truck are confirmed before pickup.
  4. We confirm the windows and the spot. You get the pickup window, the expected delivery window, and where the truck will meet you, before the truck rolls. If anything changes on the road, you hear it from us first.
  5. Hand-off and the BOL. You or someone you name meets the driver, checks the car and signs the bill of lading. The delivery BOL is saved in the client portal at fctorders.com.

Someone needs to be there at each end. If you cannot be, name a friend or family member and give us their phone number. Our vehicle prep guide covers what to do before the driver arrives.

Open or enclosed

Door-to-door works the same on either trailer. Most cars ship on an open trailer. Classic, exotic and high-value cars usually go in an enclosed trailer, which keeps out weather and road debris. The same rule applies to both: the truck gets as close as it safely and legally can.

Door-to-door questions

Will the truck come to my driveway?

The truck gets as close to your address as it safely and legally can. Often that is right out front. On some streets the driver meets you at a nearby open lot instead, and we agree on the spot with you ahead of time.

Do I have to be there for pickup and delivery?

Someone has to be. If you cannot, name a person and give us their phone number so the driver can reach them.

Can you ship a car that does not run door to door?

Yes. Tell us when you ask for a quote, because a non-running car needs different loading equipment.

How will I know when the driver is close?

We confirm the pickup and expected delivery windows before the truck rolls, and the client portal at fctorders.com shows live driver location while the driver is active.
